More of Videos, Then and Now

Released in 2001, Kid Rhino's last two videos also came on DVD with matching cover art. Scroll down to read the back synopses below. If you look close, though, you'll notice a mistake with the two covers--Cyclonus, a Movie character, graces the front of "Villains: The Ultimate Doom", a three-part epsidoe from the first season! Since it comes from a scene in Rebirth, perhaps this was just an accidental mix-up. Or, since both episodes were released simultaneously, maybe no distinction was made for episode-specific art. But in either case such mix-ups are not unique, as you'll see below...

Below are the front and back box art for Five Faces of Darkness, as released by Family Home Entertainment (FHE) back in the late 80's. On the front Powermaster Optimus Prime strikes a pose, and on back we see Alpha-Trion holding the key to the Plasma Energy Chamber from Rebirth! Below him is a screen shot of Pounce and Wingspan from the same episode, followed by (and all you trivia hounds can check this one for us,) the bottom screen shot which is actually from Return of Optimus Prime. Not knowing what really goes on when companies design jackets for videotapes, the best we can assume is that someone was given some production art and screen clips to incorporate in whatever way they could think of. To their credit, Kid Rhino obviously put some effort into combining shots from the different episodes onto their other video covers, but as you can see above even they're not immune to mix-ups.

Stay tuned, we'll have more vintage video jackets on this page as soon as possible...
